Marie Leiter is well known in the industry for providing clients with innovative, cost-effective solutions for their challenging business needs. With more than 14 years’ experience in increasingly responsible Human Resources Management positions, she offers a wealth of knowledge across the entire Human Resources spectrum: advisor, recruiting, employee relations, benefits/compensation, compliance (government contractor), performance management, training and policy development. Her ability to influence others by example, manage issues, and lead people is evident through her significant work experience and professional accomplishments.

Prior to becoming a consultant, Marie worked for Terma North America as Manager of Human Resources, the Center for Naval Analysis as Senior Manager of Employment and Employee Relations, and LEVICK Strategic Communications as Manager of Human Resources.

Additionally, Marie served as Director of Human Resources for Allied Technology Group (ATG), an $80M government contractor with 459 employees in Rockville, Maryland. At ATG, Marie established a Human Resources department to align infrastructure support to the growing business, centralized recruitment, managed a compensation plan design, implemented a HRIS for the organization, and led a five-person team. She also instituted policies and processes to maximize departmental and organization-wide efficiencies and to mitigate organization liability.

Marie received a Master of Science (MS) degree in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Professional Human Resources (PHR) Management Certificate from Villanova University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Communication from Rosemont College.

Karen has worked with government, industry and nonprofit clients to improve business performance through organizational development diagnosis, prioritization and implementation, planning and implementation of change and process improvements, reengineering, benchmarking and best practice applications, and change management.  She has diverse line, staff, leadership and strategic senior-level experiences in multiple organizations, agencies and industries, including Fortune 25 and 100 companies. Karen has initiated direct applications and practices that are strategically aligned, stakeholder-focused and cost effective.  As an adjunct professor at The Catholic University of America for graduate level courses Karen is well qualified to inform and educate clients on different manners in which their challenges can be approached.  In addition to teaching, Karen is a speaker and presenter at national association meetings and is a certified Herrmann Brain Dominance (HBDI)® Practitioner.

Mary F. Tack, M.A., SHRM-SCP, HCS, SWP, SPHR

Michael Strand has over 35 years of human resources experience at the executive level. From 1977 to 1991 he served as the HR Director of 4 non-profit organizations ranging in size from 650 to 4,000 employees. Mike has been consulting since 1991. He provides a broad variety of human resources projects and services to small and medium sized non-profit and for-profit organizations. Primary areas of expertise include compensation, employee benefits, and employee communications.

As a consultant, Mr. Strand has served in multi-year capacities as the top human resources person for a number of organizations.  In these capacities he advised the CEOs on regulatory compliance such as FLSA classification and independent contractor status, employee communications through employee handbooks, personnel policies and fringe benefits brochures, employee compensation, performance evaluation plans, benefit plan enhancements, reference checking, job descriptions, HHR audits, employee relations, executive retention programs, and other issues. Additionally, for 8 months in 1992 Mr. Strand served as Acting Executive Director of a professional association with 35 employees.

Mike has also been an adjunct instructor at George Mason University since 2013 teaching the human resources course in the Department of Health Administration and Policy and previously served as an adjunct HR instructor at Marymount University, Northern Virginia Community College, and Prince George’s Community College. Mike also teaches the Total Rewards, Employee & Labor Relations and the Risk Management modules to HR professionals in preparation for Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) certification exam. Additionally he teaches courses in Leadership, Compensation and Benefits. He teaches both in person and online courses ranging from delivering a 2-day workshop in Compensation and Benefits for multinational corporation representatives in Singapore to creating and conducting webinars for BLR (“Market-Based Compensation”) and Compensation Connection (“7 Steps to Market-Based Pricing.”)

In 2008 Mr. Strand received an appointment to the 3-person Merit System Board of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The Board serves as the final administrative appellate entity on all employee appeals resulting from disciplinary actions, grievance decisions, classification decisions and complaints of discrimination.

Mr. Strand is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He wrote a chapter in the book Stress-free Performance Appraisals by Sharon Armstrong and Madelyn Appelbaum (2003, Career Press). He also authored two chapters in the original edition of The Essential HR Handbook by Sharon Armstrong and Barbara Mitchell (2008,

Mike has a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo and a Masters of Arts degree (School of Government and Business Administration) from The George Washington University.

Karen Puleo has 30 years of human resource management experience serving a variety of industries including financial services, mortgage, technology, telecommunications, and government contracting. During her tenure, she has served in senior leadership roles, overseeing HR departments for Fortune 500 companies. She has extensive management experience in employee relations, human resources information systems, benefits administration, meeting planning and coordination, compensation, training, payroll, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, HR policies and procedures, recruiting and strategic planning.

Additionally, Karen serves on the board of Step Sisters, a nonprofit organization that supports women impacted by breast cancer. As a breast cancer survivor herself, she has devoted much of her free time to being a mentor to cancer patients in their recovery journey. Her story was featured in Posh Seven magazine.

Karen’s professional credentials include holding a BS in management and organizational behavior from Rider University; being a member of the Society of Human Resource Management; being licensed from the Commonwealth of Virginia Life and Health Insurance and Annuities Contracts; and being certified by Zenger-Miller.

Mary F. Tack is a talent management and organization development consultant with over 20 years of experience. She has spent most of her career in the high technology arena having worked for organizations to include L-3 National Security Solutions, Deltek and Software AG.

She consults with organizations to analyze integrated organizational human resources practices related to people, processes and technology that attract, develop, motivate, and retain productive, engaged employees. She facilitates the assessment of leaders, manager and teams and creates interventions that improve emotional intelligence, collaboration, and communication.
